Our Teachers

Our teachers have excellent educational backgrounds as well as real world performance experience. Most of our teachers have their degrees in music, some their masters, and others working towards one of the two. Also, our instructors are all excellent performing artists who are active within the music community both locally and even nationally. They can confidently share their expertise as successful artists in the music industry and the years that they have already contributed to developing young musicians.

April Smith
Kindermusik, Cello

April Smith currently resides in Gastonia, NC and works as a licensed Kindermusik educator at Songbirds Studios. She holds a BA in Music Therapy and plays cello for the local recording group Porcelain. It was her time as a music director for a child-development center that first planted the idea of what is now Songbirds Studios in her head and heart. She had her first experience with Kindermusik and its success years ago and is very excited to be teaching again.

Through warmth and joy, she nurtures musical expression and is committed to helping children and adults alike learn about the music they love. April also teaches classes in music history and music appreciation and hopes to expand the schedule to include resources for special needs.

Daniel Kutcher
Guitar, Voice

Daniel Kutcher currently resides in Gastonia, NC and works at Songbirds Studios as one of the voice instructors as well as the guitar and drum instructor. Daniel is a self-taught musician who, from the age of 4, spent his childhood exploring piano and guitar. His background in singing is extensive with awards won in musical theater and almost a decade spent as a touring ASCAP artist. He is one half of local recording group Porcelain. He thoroughly enjoys providing people with the opportunity to develop their musical abilities and tastes, and focuses his efforts to make Songbirds Studios the perfect place for that endeavor.

Christy has 16 years of classical piano training and 10 years of classical vocal training and holds a degree in vocal performance music from Lee University. She has over a decade of experience teaching, leading church music, directing choirs and individual musicians in casual and formal competition settings. Christy looks forward to introducing her students to all the joys of a solid musical foundation…one that will carry through many years, and even many instruments.
